Letters Home

by Craig, John and James Boyd

Craig, John and James each wrote frequent and detailed letters to their parents throughout the War. The letters were carefully kept and stored in William Boyd’s bagpipe chanter box for over 100 years. In 2014 the letters were transcribed by family members and they have since been digitised for East Dunbartonshire archives.

Voice recordings of some of these letters, made by students from Douglas Academy, Milngavie in 2016, bring the three brothers’ letters to life in a unique way letting us into the thoughts and feelings of three local men who fought and survived the First World War.
